ARCH PAIN

Toes Transparent_edited.png

Arch pain is often felt as a dull or sharp ache under the long arch of the foot.  There are a number of causes of this, but the most common is a flat foot, but can also be due to the strain of any soft tissue in the arch of the foot.

The more common specific causes of arch pain can be; plantar fasciitis, Tarsal tunnel syndrome, foot strain from a pronated foot or flat foot or there can be osteoarthritis of the joints in the midfoot that can cause arch pain.

Arch pain is a common foot condition that can be easily treated. If you suffer from arch pain avoid high-heeled shoes whenever possible. Use footwear that is supportive in the midfoot and heel. Try to choose footwear with a reasonable heel, soft leather uppers, shock absorbing soles and removable foot insoles.

When the arch pain is pronation related (flat feet), an orthotic designed with a medial heel post and proper arch support is recommended for treating the pain. This type of orthotic will control over-pronation, support the arch and provide the necessary relief.
